SIMBA
SIMBA is an user led organisation driven by mental health survivors from the black and multi-ethnic communities.
Originally formed ten years ago, SIMBA has grown to become a place where through their meetings on a weekly basis the members can meet, support each other, be entertained, and in particular work on their various creative skills, be they within the realms of art, poetry, photography, or music.
These skills have then been displayed within the wider black community at a number of both exhibitions and shows which have been organised or attended by SIMBA members.
SIMBA Action
SIMBA is very active in working to change the perceptions around mental health. Its work includes the following:
- Regular advice and assisting to the South London and Maudsley Trust with regard to its efforts in making the wards a more humane place to be for patients, including presentations to the board members.
- The promotion of mental health services available to those in the community who feel they might need assistance through a series of exhibitions, workshops, presentations, etc.
Weekly Drop-In
SIMBA meets at the Lorrimore Drop-In Centre every Tuesday, where members can be entertained or enjoy a meal, or participate in an art club allowing members to utilise their creative talents.
Come and meet SIMBA Members in our new “Black Space” every Tuesday 12.30pm - 3.30pm at the Lorrimore Drop-In Centre, in St Paul's Church, London SE17 3QU.
