Background

Home & Dry was established in 1996 to improve the living conditions of adults experiencing serious mental ill health in Southwark and Lambeth.

It is funded by both Lambeth and Southwark (SLAM & PCT).

Staffing

4 x project workers; qualified trades people and experienced in working with adults with mental ill health.

1 x coordinator.

Jobs / tasks

• Painting and decorating
• Basic home improvement tasks (eg tiling, woodwork repairs, internal locks etc)
• Small removals
• Health & safety checks
• Liaison with statutory maintenance teams
• Liaison with environmental health
• Liaision with community mental health teams
• Most requests are for full 'make-overs' of properties. The reality is that one or two rooms at the most are able to be prioritised. Many clients receive follow-up visits/work. The main priority is to ensure that there is at least a habitable, safe living environment.
