Untitled

By Paul (First poem since 1977)

Contrast
Colour
Vibrancy
A massive Matisse
Accidentally tossed aside,
Torn shapes of colour.
Movement and
mastery of balance,
of a Calder mobile.
But again I'm drawn
to theoverwhelming
sombre,
solidity that
surrounds you in
a Rothko chapel.
Fuzzing
a laughing mother,
the intensity
on a scale that
dwarves all other emotion.
Houston, oh my Houston
of my solitary
sojourn.

A kind word
Can be heard
Above a crowd.

Open my eyes
It's still dark
Spring, summer, or winter.
Just the same.

Put my face on
Slap on a smile
Hold back the tears
Take a deep breath
Face the world
Nothing changes.

'Turn the other cheek'
'Do not cast the first stone'
'Count your blessings'
'It could be worse'
'It can only get better'
Such words of wisdom.

But inside
I'm angry
But no one listens
Inside I'm hurt
But no one hears
Inside I'm miserable but no one sees.

Because I have to
Put my face on
Slap on a smile
Hold back the tears
Take a deep breath
Face the world.

I face my darkness alone
I face my demons alone
I look them straight in the eyes
And say 'come on, what next'
Bring it on
But there's only silence.

Open my eyes
It's still dark
Today will I put on my face and plod on?
Or give in to the void?
I hold it together because I have to
And because
The thought that tomorrow may come
And it could be less dark.

Hey Guy

By Linnie

Twisting and turning
On the dance floor
The DJ's singing
Everybody want more.

Hey Guy look my way
Make my perfect day
Let me fall in love
With your push and shove.

I'm trying to keep up
With your dancing
You're moving too fast
For any romancing.

Hey Guy please slow down
Don't go to town
I'm here feeling lonely
Take me with you.

Yes Guy. you're great
You I love and hate not
I love you so
Hey Guy you're in my heart.

Blue Sky

By Tony R.

I look skyward and see
A blue, blue cloud
Aerial ceiling surround
A perfect blue shroud.

Ace Of Hearts

By F. Fridi

A twist of fate amongst all
My darkened skies.
The dealer deals a card from the pack,
An ace of hearts.
The most beautiful one of all.
Her eyes the shine, her hair it flows,
Like a glistening waterfall.
That look of compassion,
A heart of gold.
Like a summer's sun in a distant paradise,
Embracing me and my lonesome soul.
Together I know that we fill find
Our own treasure island,
Our own deep blue sea sailing
Towards a majestic sunset,
And be sure in this game of life,
One card I will never abandon,
The one and only ace of hearts.

She Smiled Today

By Michelle P.

She smiled today & that's rare
her brown eyes twinkled
she looked so radiant
she was happy.

Then her eyes darkened
Back in her cage
Mortally wounded
Mental illness, changed personality.

Those same eyes so beautiful
Shone, now flashed
Fear, sickness. Mental illness, so painful to see!
It was painful to see,
The change! The change mentally!
But I remember
She smiled for me & who knows
What a smile can do. When one you love
Is unwell - mentally. But I'll keep
In mind the positivity. For she smiled and I hope
It was for me!
